Join us for STEM Knitting at the Varnum Memorial Library! During this 8-week workshop, children who are in grades 4-10 will explore and learn the ancient art of knitting through algebra, geometry, chemistry, engineering, and coding, among other "STEM" related topics. Research has shown that learning handwork skills, such as knitting, can increase focus and concentration. At the end of the 8-week session, each child will have created a wearable hat and a "mug rug" (coaster), while hopefully gaining insight into the many connections between knitting and math/science. All supplies will be provided and this workshop is free of charge. High-quality yarn has been donated to this program by Legacy Fiber Artz, an independent yarn dying company out of Essex Junct. https://legacyfiberartz.com/ . We are gladly welcoming more donations; particularly knitting needles. 

The Workshop will be held on Wednesdays from 5-6:30 p.m. and will run from October 10 until Dec 12 (with Halloween and the day before Thanksgiving off). Each lesson will build on the next, so commitment is important in order to come away with a completed hat and a full skill set.

Registration is required and space is limited, so please call 644-2117 to register your child as soon as possible.
